Our 3rd Open Science event answers the question “Can scientifically substantiated smoke-free products contribute to public health outcomes?” with a resounding YES. People who don’t smoke should never start, and people who currently smoke should quit as quickly as possible. For people who would otherwise continue to smoke cigarettes: we, as a tobacco company, can really make a positive difference by developing and scientifically assessing new smoke-free products that represent an acceptable alternative to continued smoking.

For our second ever Open Science event, we decided to focus on one of the biggest problems with cigarettes: burning. It's the burning, or combustion, of tobacco that creates cigarette smoke and generates high levels of harmful chemicals. By heating instead of burning tobacco, we can avoid creating smoke and thus many of those harmful chemicals, and the levels of those chemicals that are present may be significantly reduced. This Open Science webinar will walk you through some of our most fundamental research on the aerosol of our leading heated tobacco product (HTP).

We at Philip Morris International have committed to replacing cigarettes with better alternatives as rapidly as possible. Present circumstances related to confinement measures make it difficult to share our unpublished results at conferences as posters or presentations, and so we've created this space to share our scientific results openly with the scientific community.
